Organisations I've worked with

Jabiru OSHC

Working alongside the team at Jabiru OSHC, I mentored and supported Educators as they begin their journey into playful pedagogy and playwork-informed practice. My role focuses on challenging traditional assumptions about children's play and helping educators recognise the value of child-led experiences within the school-age care environment.

I activate existing spaces by introducing loose parts and open-ended materials, often bringing along the "good stuff" such as handmade go-karts, timber, wheels, tools, masking tape and other resources that inspire creativity, collaboration and adventure. From there, we follow the children's interests and ideas, allowing play to evolve organically.

A significant part of my work involves mentoring Educators to see beyond programmed activities and embrace the complexity, joy and learning that emerge through freely chosen play. Together, we explore how environments, resources and adult practice can better support children's agency, risk-taking and imagination.

The children at Jabiru have also participated in excursions to Williams Park Play Park, where they experienced community-based play in action. They took part in a Go-Kart Building Incursion, using real tools and materials to design and build their own go-karts before testing them through play. These experiences provide opportunities for creativity, problem-solving, teamwork and confidence building while demonstrating the powerful role play can have in children's lives.

Through this work, I support both children and educators to reimagine what is possible when play is given the time, space and respect it deserves.
